Ruggedly handsome
Increasingly, workboat operators are relying on ruggedized PCs for many of their navigation and communication requirements, and handy–sized tablet versions can be particularly useful on deck.
Rugged mobile computing specialist Mobexx has introduced a new slimline 10-inch MIL-STD-810G, IP-65 tested Windows 8.1 Professional tablet PC. The machine sports front and back facing cameras, 1.9 GHz quad-core processor (Intel Bay Trail E3845), and what Mobexx claims is one of the best rugged, backlit IPS LCD screens available in an industrial grade device.
The environmentally sealed casing and magnesium alloy midframe has allowed, in testing, the device to withstand 1.52-metre drops (1.2-metre with accessories installed), while still keeping the software and system running. The battery life allows full eight-hour shifts, with the option of a hot swappable external battery to give an extra six hours .
Mark Dale-Lace of Mobexx told Maritime Journal: “The Bobcat in common with other Xplore products is designed for long service life and comes with a standard three-year warranty. As it runs full Windows 8.1 and can be used with Windows 7 too, integration with legacy software is straightforward. We believe this to be a very compelling product for any application where a light and slim 10-inch device that offers superior ruggedness and reliability is essential. “
