KNRM self-righter
The Royal Netherlands Lifeboat Organisation (KNRM), has taken a new self-righting lifeboat into service. The vessel, named ‘Cornelis’, a Dito type Fast Rescue Craft 903 – Twin was delivered to the KNRM station at Texel.
The lifeboat is designed by Pieter Meuzelaar (of Dutch Special Marine Group) and built by Habbeké Shipyard in Volendam. It is a specially developed type with a self-righting installation on the console and twin drive for use on open water, such as the Waddenzee Sea. The boat has a length of 9.15m, a beam of 3.30m and can reach a maximum speed of 36 knots. It is equipped with two Styer SE266E40 engines powering two UltraJet 251 waterjets. The crew consists of four people who are seated on specially designed seats, sheltered behind the centre console. The rescuing capacity of the craft is 20 people.
The boat’s self-righting capacity was fully tested before use and passed all the KNRM’s tests with flying colours.
