Bukh gains additional approvals for its engines
Bukh’s VGT series of engines have received US Environmental Protection Agency approval.
The engines are available in four models ranging from 350hp (257kW) to 500hp (373kW) and are based on a 6.6L, V8 configuration.
The engines are common-rail and also meet SOLAS standards for lifeboat or rescue boat inboard diesel.
“We’re hoping that by achieving US Coastguard acceptance it will open up the US market for lifeboats and workboats where we can use our engines,” explained Martin Lindbæk, Danish based Bukh marketing / after sales manager. “The regulations are very strict and there are many requirements which we must comply with in order to gain the approvals; it takes a lot of time.
“Only certain starting methods are accepted for instance and gauge packages must include laid-down criteria.”
The VGT engines have been developed to provide durability, diesel economy and dependable power.
The latest approvals mean Bukh can now offer engines from 24 to 500hp which meet US EPA non-road compression-ignition engine exhaust emission standards and adds to the more than 20 other different type approvals from various authorities.
