Huisman gets foot in Brazil’s door
The very first Brazilian Huisman winch packages will soon be coming out of the company’s new production facility in Navegantes, Brazil.
These electrically-driven anchor handling and towing winch packages are destined to be onboard the four latest Havyard 843 vessels.
Each set consists of one 400 tonne anchor handling winch, one towing winch of the same capability and two 120 tonne secondary winches. Besides the typical winch functions the anchor handling and towing winches are fitted with water cooled clutches integrated in the drive train, enabling overload protection, high speed pay-out, and emergency release functions.
In 2013, Huisman started the construction of its new production facility in Navegantes, Santa Catarina state, in the south of Brazil. It is interesting, not just from a political point of view as the move by Huisman means the company will be fulfilling the necessary ‘local content’ requirement but also because Huisman has seen the potential of Brazil’s river system as a conveyor belt, with ships moving along the Itajai-Açu river for build and outfitting.
Although not yet open, the Brazilian Huisman production facility has already been awarded contracts for the delivery of six 65 tonne lattice boom cranes and four 65 tonne knuckleboom cranes for Sete Brasil and cranes plus pipe storage baskets for two 340 tonne tiltable pipelay systems, headed for Technip-DOF vessels.
