It is the first in a range of products designed and built for the marine environment, aiming to provide minimal maintenance and frugal battery consumption.

“The Bilge Bug is a truly unique device, designed and engineered in the UK to provide the safest and most reliable clearance of bilge water available,” said Andrew Davenport, Excel Marine’s managing director.

He added: “Our aim is to make boating safer, trouble free and provide peach of mind to the owner or operator.”

The product has no moving parts and is IP 67 rated for watertight protection of the electronics. It has a timed on/off delay which will aim to further reduce operating power consumption and extend pump life.

“Failure of a bilge pump system can be catastrophic so we therefore set out to create a switch with no moving parts, built of extremely robust materials that will last for up to seven years with minimal maintenance at a reasonable price,” said Mr Davenport.

Bilge Bug Electronic Bilge Pump Switch was produced following Excel Marine revisiting its Bilge Bug technology and using new facilities to rework the electronics with the latest components.

“We used customer feedback from the original users and took a long look at other products on the market to see where we could provide a more reliable and safer solution,” Mr Davenport concluded.
