Sanmar’s little sister snapped up
The April edition of Tugs & Towing reported in detail of Sanmar’s new tug dubbed the ‘little sister’ to the ‘Bogacay’ series. It has now been revealed that Rimorchiatori Napoletani will receive the first two examples.
The new tug was designated as the RAmparts 2200 by Robert Allan Ltd and as the Sirapinar series by Sanmar and the first two, of which the keels were laid in February have been quickly snapped up by long-established Italian operator Rimorchiatori Napoletani.
Commenting on the new design, Ali Gurun of Sanmar said: ‘The industry is under the challenge of ever tighter cost control and the only way to achieve this is to have more bollard pull in more compact hulls with low operational and maintenance costs. This new design, which is exclusive to us, combines all these attributes’.
Over 30 of the larger RAmparts 2400-SX Bogacay series have been built offering bollard pulls ranging from 60 to 75 tonnes. This new 22m version is available with bollard pulls of between 45 and 60 tonnes and is aimed at potential clients requiring even more compact hulls with reduced operating costs while still providing sufficient pulling power for operations perhaps in tight spaces.
With a length overall of 22.4m, beam 10.85m and maximum draught 4.67m the two first Italian examples will be classed by RINA and meet Italian flag requirements. Twin 1,500kW Caterpillar main engines will drive Schottel azimuth thrusters providing a bollard pull of 50t
Rimorchiatori Napoletani is based in Naples and provides towing services in southern Italy at: Naples, Bari, Gaeta and Taranto. With a fleet of 17 vessels it is currently compleing the process of replacing its traditional single-screw tugs with modern ASD versions. It also operates the platform supply vessels Gargano and Portosalvo under the banner of subsidiary company Portosalvo Ltd.
