ABB wins Danish windfarm cable system order

Horns Rev 3 windfarm is located in the North Sea, about 30km off the western-most point of Denmark, Blåvands Huk in water depths between 10m and 20m. The project is still at planning stage and once completed, the 400MW windfarm will have capacity to supply electricity to around 400,000 local households.

´Green´ power generated by the offshore windfarm will be brought to shore via a 32 km long 220kV three-core polymeric insulated submarine cable with integrated fibre-optics for data-communications and temperature monitoring of the power cable. ABB’s project scope includes: technical design, engineering and production of the high-voltage cable system including accessories and installation. The world´s second largest submarine cable in diameter will be manufactured at ABB’s high-voltage cable factory in Karlskrona, Sweden with delivery scheduled to commence in 2016.

Energinet.dk is an independent public enterprise owned by the Danish state as represented by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building. ABB has previously delivered high-voltage cables from 145kV to 420kV to Energinet.dk for several projects including the recent Lille Belt, 420kV link.
