Accreditation for Offshore Spill Training
The first e-learning package to train personnel in handling pollution incidents from offshore installations to UK standards has been accredited by the British Governments Department of Trade and Industry.
The package from Briggs Environmental Services Ltd helps the UK offshore oil industry meet the statutory training requirement stipulated under the Offshore Installations (Emergency Pollution Control) Regulations 2002. This legislation brings the offshore industry into line with the training standards already required of ports and terminals under the OPRC Convention.
Developed in partnership with Crescent Engineering (Aberdeen) Ltd, who produced the software, the interactive package trains offshore personnel responsible for responding to a pollution incident.
The DTI has also accredited three lecture based courses developed by Briggs Environmental for training UK offshore personnel in pollution control. These include a five day UK Offshore – Onshore Response Manager course built for personnel within the oil and gas sector who have overall responsibility for managing pollution incidents.
The Nautical Institute, charged with accrediting training centres and course contents, visited Briggs’ facilities in Aberdeen late last month and confirmed that their courses complied with standards set by the DTI.
