Boskalis and Van Oord to extend harbour at Gijón

Dutch dredging majors Boskalis and Van Oord have secured a contract for the expansion of the harbour at Gijón in Spain. The project will be executed by Boskalis and Van Oord working together in a partnership. The client is Autoridad Portuaria de Gijón. The value of the contract is approximately € 65m, with the Boskalis share being approximately € 35m.

The project includes land reclamation for a new trans-shipment harbour for gas and bulk goods. A total of approximately 20 million m3 of sand will be reclaimed.

The project will commence in June and will be executed in approximately 10 months using medium sized trailing suction hopper dredgers.
