CEDA to visit major Spanish port expansion

The ‘Puerto de El Musel‘ project includes the construction of a 3,880m long breakwater and an extension of 140 hectares of land surface and 145 hectares of water surface within the port. The port will house a modern solid bulk terminal with 1,250m of quay berth and depths of up to 27m of water. Upon completion of the project, some 10m tons of stone and more than 130,000 concrete blocks of various sizes, the largest being 200 tons, will have been placed by the contractor. The amount of reinforced concrete used for the construction of floating caissons for the breakwater and quays exceeds 500,000 cu/m.

At the time of the visit the reclamation works for a new trans-shipment facility for gas and bulk goods will be still ongoing, though close to completion. The reclamation works involving approximately 20m cu/m of sand are being carried out by the Joint Venture Dravosa, consisting of Van Oord’s Spanish subsidiary and Boskalis, using medium sized trailing suction hopper dredgers.
