Contracts Double for VTMS
VTMS Ltd (Vessel Traffic Management Systems) of Leicester UK have signed two major navigation aids maintenance contracts. For a five year period VTMS will, on behalf of Forth Ports PLC, service and maintain their buoys and beacons in the rivers Forth and Tay.
The SETs and daymarks are made from lightweight, inert and robust rotationally moulded polyethylene. As each component can be quickly removed or replaced, repairs can be carried out at sea using smaller service boats to provide a cost effective means of buoy maintenance.
A similar contract has been signed with Associated British Ports (ABP) to service and maintain their buoys in the South Wales ports of Newport, Cardiff, Barry, Port Talbot and Swansea.
For the Forth Ports contract VTMS has established a yard and maintenance facility at Burntisland, Fife and the ABP contract will be covered from VTMS premises in Swansea.
