COWI to undertake EIA for New Doha Port

The study, which will be carried out in two different phases, will be completed in the next 25 months.The first phase of the EIA will be completed within the next 10 months. It would take another 15 months to complete the final phase. The EIA will be carried out in consultation with the design Consultants.

‘Our task is to study the possible impact of the port on the marine and terrestrial environment. We would also suggest proposals to mitigate the environmental impact of the project on the local environs, if any, COWI’s project director Mogens A Hviid and head of environment Kent Edvin Pedersen explained.

COWI will liaise with the project’s design consultant, Worley Parsons Qatar, and with the project’s Programme Management Consultant, AECOM.

According to the project schedule, the design is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2010. Dredging of the sea channel is to start by the first quarter of this year.

Phase One of the project is expected to be completed by 2014 and the project will be completed by 2030. When finished, the port will have five cargo terminals and berths, four container terminals and berths, one berth for Ro-Ro vessels, a livestock berth along with storage, administrative and custom facilities.
