Dredging simulator with an outside view
IHC Systems has celebrated the inauguration of their new dredging simulator, the first of its kind with an outside view, and also unveiled its 1,250th production meter. The ceremony was attended by Mr Martin Boevé e, the mayor of Sliedrecht in the Netherlands, where IHC Systems is based.
The new simulator will be named the
Pieter Caland
, after the civil engineer who designed the plan for the country’s New Waterway in the 19th century. It is the first simulator ever built with an outside view simulating both sailing and dredging with a trailing suction hopper dredger.IHC Systems has been building simulators for the dredging market since 2002. The first version was built for the Belgian company, Jan De Nul, but it wasn’t equipped with an outside view. Numerous cutter suction dredgers were built in the years that followed and IHC Systems developed simulators to train those who would man them.
The company develops the simulators on a group wide basis, with sister companies in the IHC Merwede Group, including IHC Dredgers, the research institute MTI Holland and the Training Institute for the Dredging Industry (TID), all involved.
At the same ceremony, Mr Jan Pieter Koert, the general m,anager of IHC Engineering Services, unveiled the1250th production meter built by IHC Systems. Such meters have been in use in the dredging industry for more than 40 years. It is an indispensable tool for efficient process control on board dredgers and it can be supplied with a range of wear resistant liners.
IHC Systems provides a total concept for devising, developing, designing and producing advanced process control and automation equipment. The company’s dirctor Joti Hakkert said, ‘IHC Systems has again demonstrated that it has strong roots in proven technology but that it is, at the same time, able to use the very latest technology for the benefit of the dredging world.’
