Dual role survey boat for Belgian operator
Belgium based independent hydrographic survey company GEOxyz took delivery of its latest vessel, Geo Surveyor X, last month.
Designed and built in Spain to GEOxyz’s specifications, the Geo Surveyor X is a 20m multi-purpose vessel fitted with the latest survey equipment, including a hull mounted multibeam system. It is able to carry out the full range of site and cable route surveys in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
To maximise utilisation of the vessel, consideration within the specifications was given to the offshore support sector and the vessel can carry a 20 foot container aft and at the bow with a deck load of 25 tons, while being licensed MCA Cat 1 to carry 12 persons. This dual ability allows the vessel to either operate in an operations and maintenance capacity or as a survey vessel or, alternatively, perform both roles simultaneously, offering combined efficiencies.
Those efficiencies are not limited to the vessel’s dual role capability. Reflecting the company’s concern for its carbon footprint and that of the client’s, Geo Surveyor X is amongst the most fuel efficient vessels in its class. At the cruising speed of 21 knots, the vessel delivers a fuel consumption of 220 litres per hour.
The versatile Geo Surveyor X is fitted with an A- frame providing three tonnes SWL, enabling shallow water geotechnical sampling and ROV launching. The deck crane has a 7.5 t/m capacity. There are two moonpools , winch capacity and for longer deployments, and accommodation on board for 12 in six double cabins.
