ENC Website Upgraded

The International Centre for Electronic Nautical Charts (ENCs) has established a new, improved catalogue on its website (www. ic-enc. org) which displays not only ENCs within its database, but also the latest status of production around the world. It additionally guides users on where charts can be purchased with links to relevant websites.

The Lowrance Structure Scan was actually developed for the leisure boating industry, but its imaging provides three dimensional pictures which are quite different from those produced by traditional fish finders.

The IC-ENC is a consortium of national hydrographic organisations from Belgium, Germany, Greece, India, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and the UK. The UK Hydrographic Office, which hosts the organisation’s office while supervising day-to-day operations on behalf of its members, has recently announced inclusion of Greek ENC’s in its Admiralty ENC service. They will form part of sea trials of the proposed Admiralty ECDIS Service, which are presently being conducted with various shipping companies.
