Ocean Energy strengthens its position on tidal
Proteus Marine Renewables (PMR) has joined the Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) Board of Directors, further strengthening its position as a global leader in marine renewables.
PMR has been at the forefront of tidal energy for over two decades and it’s added input to OEE will no doubt help to further its aim to advance the tidal sector towards full commercialisation.
”Joining the Ocean Energy Europe Board is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders and policymakers to drive real momentum in marine renewables,” said Drew Blaxland, CEO of PMR, who will represent the company as a new lead partner on the OEE Board.
”With major projects underway in the UK, France and Japan, we are proving that tidal energy is scalable, reliable and ready to play a key role in the global energy transition.”
Tidal pioneer
PMR has become known for its AR series of single-axis, bottom-mounted tidal turbines generating over 20GWh of electricity worldwide.
The company is behind some of the most iconic tidal energy projects globally, including the 6MW MeyGen array in Scotland’s Pentland Firth, a planned 12MW array in France’s Raz Blanchard and the recently deployed 1.1MW AR1100 system in Japan’s Goto Islands.
Rémi Gruet, CEO of OEE, welcomed the appointment: “They have been a sector leader for many years, and it is great to see them take on a more prominent role at OEE as they prepare to deliver significant projects around the world,” he said.
