Real world decarbonisation

Part of Mercator Media’s Commercial Marine Network and in association with the Workboat Association, the Get Set for Workboat 2050 ‘Decarbonisation-Showcasing Industry Success. Reducing fleet emissions-Learn from Real-World Implementation’ session will include insight from Dr Iain Percy OBE, CEO, Artemis Technologies.

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Percy will discuss the innovative technology behind the company’s 11m Artemis eFoiler propelled workboat being launched next year and how this system is the key to creating high-speed zero-emission vessels.

He will also discuss the offshore wind crew transfer vessel feasibility study project funded by the UK Department for Transport’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, and the Belfast Maritime Consortium’s project to launch a high-speed electric ferry.

CTV fuel efficiency

Ian Baylis, founder of Seacat Services, will talk about crew transfer vessels (CTVs) in the renewables sector. The company is currently researching the best way to decarbonise the business and deliver on the demands of building new windfarms. Fuel efficiency is a major focus and the company is investing in vessels that deliver this, including a CTV Seacat with HV030 fuel, two BarTech 30’s and two Chartwell 24’s with BAR FOSS technology.

Bert de Ruiter, commercial manager work boats for Acta Marine will also be presenting at the event. He will be discussing the development and construction of the Hybrid Triple Drive DP2 work vessel “Coastal Crown”, repowering first and second-generation CTV’s with IMO TIER III engines, the company’s first experiences with the use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to cut CO2 emissions, the implementation and use of “ONBOARD” fuel monitoring system on its vessels and the developing a H2 powered workboat.

The session will take place as a hybrid event on 3 November at the COP26 International Maritime Hub, hosted by the City of Glasgow College in partnership with Maritime UK.

Kerrie Forster, CEO of the Workboat Association will deliver the welcome address and the second series will continue to be moderated by Andy Page, MD of Chartwell Marine.
