World-first platform generates electricity with sea temperature

UK-based Global OTEC and a consortium it’s leading has installed what it describes as the world’s first purpose-built offshore platform designed to generate electricity from temperature differences in ocean water.

The installation will allow the company to test how its system performs in real offshore conditions, including exposure to waves, currents and extreme weather.
