Partnership struck to improve turbine precision
Exail and Pliant Offshore are integrating their measurement technologies to improve accuracy when installing offshore wind turbines.
Part of the Dutch Pliant Group, Pliant Offshore specialises in motion compensated measuring solutions for the international offshore and maritime market, monitoring cables, monopiles, turbines, vessels and other offshore structures.
It has a range of software and equipment to provide real-time measurements of the inclination and position of structures during their installation, using 3D point cloud technology combined with laser sensors to measure and virtually reconstruct objects.

Exail’s Hydrins inertial navigation systems (INS) enhance performance by providing precise positioning and motion compensation, even on moving vessels, allowing Pliant’s Installation Measurement System (IMS) to take continuous measurements during the pile-driving process to guarantee the best positioning and stability of the turbines.
French firm Exail launched its DriX O-16 transoceanic Uncrewed Surface Vessel at this year’s Oceanology event in London. The electric-diesel vessel has a fibre-optic gyroscope for rotational measurement, which Exail says is a core element of the technology.
