Seawork exhibitors partner up for electric marine safety
Seawork exhibitors Hefring Marine and Ecomar Propulsion have struck a partnership that they say will improve safety and operational efficiency at sea.
The deal will see Hefring’s IMAS monitoring system installed aboard Ecomar’s hydrogen-battery vessel, the MV Dirac, the first time the technology has been deployed on an electric vessel. Both companies are positioning the move as part of the maritime industry’s broader shift toward sustainable propulsion.
“Electric and hydrogen-powered vessels represent the future of maritime operations, and ensuring their crews have access to real-time environmental and motion data is essential for safe and efficient operations,” said Karl Birgir Björnsson, CEO of Hefring Marine. “The MV Dirac provides an ideal platform to demonstrate how our technology can enhance comfort and safety in this new generation of sustainable workboats.”
The MV Dirac was built specifically to test advances in propulsion, energy management, and ship controls. Hefring’s IMAS will deliver live monitoring of sea conditions, vessel motion and operational parameters to support crew safety and shore-side decision-making.
