The Port of Hong Kong won the 2002 round of its continuing battle with Singapore to be the worlds busiest container port, in the process becoming the first port ever to break the 19 million TEU barrier. A 7% increase in volume took Hong Kong to 19.14 million TEU, up from 17.8 million TEU in 2001.
ABPmer’s physical modelling facilities include a wave basin that allowed the consultancy’s design team to construct large three-dimensional sections of Blackpool’s seawall, including a scale model of the South Pier.
Figures for the first two months of this year indicate there is no slowdown of Chinese exports, with the year-on-year box volume for Hong Kong already up by 14.1%. If the trend continues, Hong Kong will burst through the 20 million TEU mark in 2003.
