Belfast Maritime Consortium appoints new chair

He replaces outgoing Nusrat Ghani, an MP who has been given a ministerial job in the UK government.

Theochari holds a number of positions in maritime, including chair emeritus of Maritime UK, chair of Maritime London and member of the Maritime Law Advisory Board at the University of Southampton.

He is also a senior consultant at the international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright.

The Belfast Maritime Consortium is a 14-member syndicate of industry, academia and public bodies, including the likes of Artemis Technologies, Belfast Harbour, Condor Ferries and Queen’s University, Belfast.

“The innovative technologies and green transport solutions being developed in Belfast are not only critical to the UK achieving its net zero targets by 2050 but are vital in the global effort to decarbonise our waterways,” said Theochari. “This consortium is already achieving great things. I look forward to working more closely alongside the gifted individuals and forward-thinking organisations within it to ensure Belfast remains at the forefront of maritime decarbonisation.”
