BMT snaps up Australian designer to target efficient vessels
Global design consultancy BMT has bought Australian naval architect firm One2three in a move it says will strengthen its position in ‘independent global commercial and specialist vessel design’.
BMT says Sydney-based One2three specialises in high-performance, innovative vessels and uses 3D design and engineering in the commercial, luxury superyacht and defence sectors.
“The acquisition expands BMT’s international ship design capability while giving customers access to broader engineering support and globally connected delivery teams,” the company says.
Founded in 2005, One2three has designed more than 300 vessels that operate in more than 30 countries and focuses on efficient hull forms and a lightweight aluminium vessel design. Its portfolio ranges from high-speed passenger ferries and battery-electric vessels to commercial workboats, patrol craft and luxury yachts, with customers across Australia, Europe, Asia, the UK and the United States.
“Over more than three decades, One2three has built a formidable reputation in commercial and specialist vessel design, including world-leading work in high-speed aluminium ferries and advanced multihull craft,” said Graeme Nayler, Regional Business director, APAC, with BMT. “Bringing that expertise into BMT, alongside our global engineering, consultancy and lifecycle heritage, strengthens the way we support customers as vessel programmes become more complex and internationally connected.”
The acquisition follows BMT’s purchase of Australian Maritime Technologies (AMT), which strengthened the company’s naval engineering and defence capability in the Asia-Pacific region. Together, the acquisitions reflect BMT’s continued investment in expanding both its commercial and specialist maritime design expertise.
“One2three has always focused on delivering high-performance vessel designs that meet the operational needs of customers and shipyards internationally,” said One2three Naval Architects Managing Director Steve Quigley. “Joining BMT strengthens our ability to scale that experience globally while maintaining the responsiveness, technical quality and customer focus that define our business.”
