Boluda Towage buys Resolve Marine (Gibraltar)
Towage and salvage giant Boluda has expanded its fleet by another four tugs with the purchase of Resolve Salvage and Fire (Gibraltar) Ltd.
Tugs Elliot, Hercules, Rooke and Wellington are now part of the firm’s global fleet.
Founded in North America and the Caribbean in 1984, Resolve Marine now has many locations around the world, from Asia to North America, South Africa and Europe. It did not make a statement about selling its Gibraltar branch and had not responded to MJ’s request for comment at the time of writing.
Boluda says the deal continues its plans to expand in the international market with a new strategic position on the Strait of Gibraltar.
Boluda already operates on both sides of the Strait, in Cadiz, Algeciras and Gibraltar, and Ceuta an Tangier on the North African coast.
The 42-mile-long Strait is only nine miles at its narrowest point and is one of the highest density shipping areas in the world, providing access from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean. More than 100,000 ships pass through every year.
Tugs are essential for assisting vessels in the area, which has strong and variable tides, powe4rful easterly and westerly winds and frequent og banks.
