Vessels shun shore power because of energy costs

A £20 million shore power project at one of the UK’s busiest ports has been lying idle despite being installed and ready to go.

The cost to vessel owners of plugging in is so high that they are sticking with diesel while at berth, in complete contradiction to the goal of the ‘Sea Change’ project at Portsmouth International Port.
