‘Melody 5’ is ready for assignments worldwide
Singapore based Regulus Ship Services Pte Ltd has taken delivery of Melody 5, an anchor handling tug built to a design by Conan Wu and Associates Pte Ltd of Singapore by Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd Miri of Malaysia.
Melody 5 meets the class requirements of Bureau Veritas: 1 + HULL MACH Special Service/Anchor Handling/ Fire-Fighting 1 with water spray and unrestricted navigation.
The vessel has a length overall of 46.7m, breadth of 12.6m and a moulded depth of 5.75m. It draws a maximum draft of 4.80m on a deadweight of 842 tons.
Melody 5 is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B marine diesels rated 2,575 bhp each at a maximum of 1,600 rpm. These turn 2,800mm diameter Kaplan type fixed pitch propellers inside Kort nozzles to give a bollard pull of 72mt and a free running speed of 12.5 knots. A raised engine control room (ECR) with windows overlooks the main part of engine room.
The vessel complies with FIFI 1 Class fire fighting requirements. Its system is comprised of two seawater pumps, one of 1,700 m3/hr capacity driven by a main engine while the other is of 1,200 m3/hr capacity and driven by an independent engine at 14kg/cm2. These supply remote controlled Fire Monitors (Foam/Water).
There is a well fitted galley supplied by a large provision store which has individual freezer and chiller compartments of approximately 5 m3 capacity each. The provision stores and freezer compartments feature multi-tier shelves. The Gallery has a hatchway to the spacious main mess room which has a seating capacity for 16 persons in one sitting. This deck also has two 4 berth cabins and one 2 berth cabin as well as laundry/change rooms and two WCs. On the forecastle deck there are six 2 berth cabins and three single berth cabins which are en-suite. The vessel has been outfitted to carry a maximum of 25 passengers, including 14 crew.
The wheelhouse is very spacious, giving maximum all round visibility and featuring control consoles on the forward and aft bulkheads, with a tracked helmsman’s chair. The bulk of the navigation and communication equipment is by Furuno except for the gyrocompass (Tokimec), autopilot (Simrad), and the echosounder (JMC). Equally comprehensive is the communication equipment set up, with a full suite of Furuno items including Inmarsat-C. The vessel is also equipped with modern FBB150 for email communication. The wheelhouse is also able to keep a complete watch on deck and accommodation activity through the use of CCTV cameras placed at strategic locations.
Deck machinery is mostly manufactured by MacGregor-Plimsoll. Melody 5 has a powerful waterfall type double drum anchor handling/towing winch with each drum holding 850m of 56mm wire and having a line pull of 150 tons with a brake load of 200 tons. There are also two 10 ton tugger winches, two 5 ton capstan and a 1,000m storage reel. A 200ts Macgregor-Plimsoll shark jaw/towing pin is located forward of the stern roller. A Sekwang (Korea) deck crane of 3 ton capacity is mounted on the forecastle deck.
The vessel’s tank capacities are impressive. It can carry 500 m3 of fuel oil, 242 m3 of fresh water and about 300 tons of deck cargo on a clear deck area of about 220 m2. Anti-pollution services are strengthened by dispersant and foam tanks and oil recovery tanks of 126 m3 capacity.
‘Melody 5’ joins a Regulus fleet of tugs and AHTS with power ratings of from 3,600 bhp up to 13,000bhp. The company will mobilize these vessels for deepsea towage, salvage, offshore anchor handling and support activity worldwide.
