Mexican contract awarded to Jan de Nul

Mexicana De Dragados SA de CV, the Mexican branch of Belgium’ s Jan De Nul Group, has signed a contract with the port authorities of the Mexican Pacific ports of Ensenada, Mazatlan and Manzanillo for dredging work at the ports. Signed on 24 October, the contract has a total value of € 48m.

In Ensenada, 1.5 million m³ will be dredged from the access channel and the turning basin using a large trailing suction hopper dredger. In Mazatlan 150,000 m³ will be dredged and deposited offshore for the repositioning of the API quays. Of the total volume, 90,000m³ is very hard material and requires a powerful cutter suction dredger.

The Manzanillo scope mainly consists of the deforestation, excavation and reclamation of terrain which will be used for an extension of the container terminal at the port. A total volume of 4.3 million m³ will be moved. The work in Manzanillo also includes widening the access channel, dredging in front of the berths and salvage of a barge.
