EIWAA Marine has a team of experienced and highly qualified inspection engineers (LEEA) who can be mobilized internationally at short notice across the globe for verifying the integrity of full mooring bollard assembly including bollard body, bollard anchor bolts, bollard anchors and bollard surroundings/ concrete structure.
Load Testing Of Mooring Bollards
This is the most economical and safe method of bollard testing for the existing and newly installed ship mooring bollards by using engineering analysis, safe monitoring records with load charts. This portable bollard load testing system that would be capable of applying specified design line loads at any direction for mooring bollards. Applied load ranges from one (1) to two hundred (200) tons pulls from zero(0) to three hundred sixty (360) degrees to horizontal. The test loads were resultant force at any direction and it will be applied by incremental stages of operation. With the larger size of vessels and /or for the local weather conditions, necessity of ensuring the integrity of safe working loads(SWL) of bollards is a key concerns or worldwide port authorities. Prevention of catastrophic failures of bollards is an often overloaded area for the safe monitoring of vessels in ports and shipyards.
Our portable bollard load testing assembly is fully calibrated equipment capable to apply loads either in mooring directions as well as away from the quay to determine the strength of bollards. Existing method of bollard testing includes pull testing of bollards by a tug boat which is more expensive and not accessible in various conditions.
EIWAA marine is capable to provide portable bollard pull testing assembly of up to 200 t capacities for performing bollard pull testing and certification to reduce the accidents in port, shipyards, maintenance yards, etc. our objectives is to see if the bollard is able to resist the maximum SWL and / or proof load by periodic inspection of bollards, SWL testing of bollard and/ or proof load testing of bollard in an economical way by a portable bollard pull testing equipment.
Common FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) for Bollard Testing:
Why bollard testing is necessary now a days..?
Now a days bollard testing is mandatory due to the increase of fetal accidents and damages for the marine asset/dockside equipments while the mooring/anchoring of ships & vessels in port/harbors. Type of bollard depends upon the size, shape, capacities and materials includes A-Type mooring bollard, B-type mooring bollard, C-Type mooring bollard, D & E-Type mooring Bollards, cast iron/Ductile type mooring bollards like single bit mooring bollards, double bit mooring bollards, T head mooring Bollards, Staghorn type Bollard, Kidney Type & cleats Type bollard, etc.
What is the direction of pulling force..?
Portable bollard testing equipment is designed to apply pulling force in any direction includes mooring direction as well as pulling force outwards away from the quay edge to create turning moments.
Type of bollard failures during the test and the load application…?
Load application will be in incremental stages and it happens by 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% hold and will conduct the 100% NDT test prior to and after load applications. It is far better to assess any failures during the application of safe working load rather than occurs in mooring/ anchoring time leads to fetal accidents.
What are the types of bollards to be tested by bollard testing equipment..?
All types of bollards can be load tested by portable testing equipment, Type of bollard includes A-Type mooring bollard, B-type mooring bollard, C-Type mooring bollard, D & E-Type mooring Bollards, cast iron/Ductile type mooring bollards like single bit mooring bollards, double bit mooring bollards, T head mooring Bollards, Staghorn type Bollard, Kidney Type & cleats Type bollard, etc.
How to monitor the loading system during bollard testing..?
Direct tonnage (Metric) reading is possible in portable bollard testing equipment. Deflection of bollards, quay and bolting system/ surrounding concrete structure is monitored and recorded by extensometer.
Details of certification of bollard test..?Bollard test certification includes the withstanding static load or safe working load(SWL) failure analysis of mooring bollard body & bollard cylinder, failure analysis of weld ot the base of bollard cylinder and failure analysis of anchor bolt of mooring bollard, relevant standard/ cod etc.
What is the maximum Load capable to apply bollard testing assembly or what is maximum capacity of bollard cap[able to load test by this portable equipment..?
200T can apply in bollards either in mooring direction as well as force outside from quay.
How identify the failure in bollard test..?
Normally catastrophic failure occurs in bollard. Failure means, bollard is not capable to withstand the applicable SWL and results it will be separated from quay, concrete floor failures surrounding the bollard structure, Deflection, Failure or fixed anchor bolts etc. crack identification of either bollard or concrete shall be done by NDT/NDE method.
What are the codes/ standards to follow for mooring bollard test..?
This is absolutely the choice of clients to follow the standard/ codes and it depends upon the application /specifications. Standard proof loading (Depends on Marine Class/Standards) of 120% of swl is applicable as a safe working practice of mooring /anchoring of ships/vessels.
Bollard test certification validity..?
Bollard certification validity will be one year and it should be recertify every one year. Recertification of bollard is applicable within this one year validity if any major repair/maintenance and it will affect the integrity of the bollards for safe withstanding of SWL
Mobilization / Availability of bollard testing bed?
Bollard testing bed and inspect ion crews are readily available and EIWAA is capable to mobilize at any time depending upon the requirements. Various ranges of bollard testing equipment of upto 200 t is available depends upon the capacity and sizes.
Number of bollards test carried out per day..?
This is absolutely depends upon the access, loading application/ direction and safe working environment. Normally 60 minutes per bollard is required for the load testing of bollards if all the above criteria meets the requirements.
Why you select EIWAA Marine for bollard testing at Port & Harbours?
Our experienced inspection crews and portable bollard testing equipment is capable to apply loads of 200 t in any direction (Whether client required application of loads either in mooring direction or away from quay) to the bollards which is newly erected/ in service in port and harbours & the bollard test integrity assessment / bollard failure assessment shall be performed by a team of inspection engineers with the help of advanced NDT/NDE techniques and engineering analysis.
