Supporting success

So how has your lockdown fitness regime shaped up? This time last year, 5 enthusiastic, highly motivated men were planning the last stages of their appearance at Seawork in a bid to secure support for the Ocean5 project; their attempt to row the Atlantic Ocean, raising awareness and supporting the fight against the scourge of plastic

Between them the team of Kevin Gaskell, Will Hollingshead, Chris Hodgson, Sam Coxon and Matt Gaskell had already trekked to the North and South Poles, climbed the world’s highest mountains, sailed the 7 seas, carried the Olympic torch and represented their countries as sportsmen. By the time they hit the start line their training regime had seen them row 4,041 km, lift 1,648,938 kilos, run 3.105 km and cycle 8,250 km.

It was at Seawork that Southampton Freight Services (SFS) managing director Ross Negus first met the Ocean5, heard their story and decided to support them in their goal to row the Atlantic.

Ross says, “We’re delighted to share with you our movie about The Ocean5 rowing team who took on the Talisker Whisky Challenge 2019 to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from La Gomera to Antigua, raising money for the Plastic Soup Foundation to tackle plastic in our oceans. We sponsored their oars and followed their dramatic race across the ocean. Here is the story.”
