More training partnership success for Kotug

The shipping industry in general is reporting an increasing demand for qualified maritime professionals. The towage sector is included here as increasingly powerful and sophisticated tugs and specialist towing procedures place extra demands on ensuring crew training and standards keep up with the times where previously hard-earned skills were handed down with training often carried out ‘on the job.’

AMC Search is the training and consultancy division of the Australian Maritime College while Kotug Training and Consultancy is a similar division of Kotug and the partnership follows a similar agreement signed earlier in 2021 between Kotug Training & Consultancy and Maritime Training Institute Karachi covering maritime personnel training at the latter’s facilities in Karachi.

AMC Search aims to increase its capabilities while maintaining ‘best-in-class training’ with Kotug fulfilling this requirement by offering first-class trainers and training material, Netherlands-based Kotug stating its training division is the only ISO 9001 certified tug training company in the world and sets high standards for training facilities it uses. It aims to ‘create safe and sound operations with respect for the environment and an excellent level of training and competence while safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved.’

With joint pilot and tug master training being requested more and more by ports and terminals globally and the Kotug organisation as a whole being a major tug owner and operator in its own right it will be well aware of the importance of effective teamwork between the crews of both the tug and the ship being assisted and will be one of the key training programmes to be delivered at the AMC Search Maritime Simulation Centre in Tasmania.

Explaining the finer detail of what is involved Patrick Everts, general manager at Kotug Training & Consultancy said: “Our training method consists of three components, classroom and simulator training at state-of-the-art simulators, and on-board training. It is a proven didactic method for the best training results, preparing the students for expected and unexpected real-life situations.
