MTG gets its teeth into Europort

With productivity and profitability closely linked, the rapid and reliable replacement of cutter head teeth is a major concern for cutter suction dredger operators, especially in hard rock conditions when the replacement process is required more frequently.

The DMET system includes a hammerless locking technology, MTG Twist, which promises added reliability and ease of use. Tooth replacement can be carried out by a single operator and the hammerless pin can be re-used several times, even in severe conditions. Due to the vertical positioning of the pin, access for assembly and disassembly is improved and pin loss during tooth replacement is avoided.

Stabilisation in all load directions enhances system robustness. The tooth adapter fitting system contact surfaces are perpendicular to the direction of the main forces, allowing better load distribution and reducing possible plastic deformation of the fitting system. The large vertical and lateral stabilisation surfaces in the tooth’s shank reduces the hammering effect in the fitting system and protects the system from overloading, preventing breakage.

With a range of self-sharpening teeth with optional inserts and extra protection for the adapter, the system is designed to maximize the life cycle of all elements, enabling the cutter head to operate for longer periods of time and thus reducing maintenance costs.
