National Workboat Association meets at Seawork
It is June. That means Seawork and a chance for the National Workboat Association to meet and greet clients old and new. Representatives can be found on Stand 133 at the show, ready and willing to answer any questions.
The past year has been eventful for some owners, with the downturn in the economy accounting for the loss of some contracts. Happily, the amount of work continues to flow and whilst it appears that mainstream shipping is in serious decline, work for small boat owners continues to thrive.
During the past year the Association has made several changes to the structure of the organisation which have made it easier to operate. The Annual General Meeting was changed from the rushed gathering at Seawork to a weekend meeting in the Lake District in January. This meeting, organised by Mike Conafray of Marineco UK, proved to be a huge success since it gave plenty of time to discuss relevant matters.
At that meeting the following officers were elected: Chairman – Capt Mark Meade; Vice Chairman – Philip Williams; Membership – Mike Conafray, Committee – Mike Stansfeld, Trevor Farman and Rod Jenkins; Certification – Yvonne Orr; Hon Secretary – Norman Finlay.
Throughout the year, the Association has continued to meet regularly with the MCA on matters relevant to the industry and thanks should be given to David Ralph and Roger Towner and their staff for the help they have given in sorting out the various queries and problems which continue to arise.
Members have the opportunity to meet up at Seawork for lunch at 1pm on Thursday 18 June, after which a short General Meeting will be held to discuss current issues.
