BAE Systems Small Boats have launched the new Pacific 24 Mk IV Rigid Inflatable Fast Rescue craft. The continued evolution of the craft is set to deliver an enhanced capability for the Royal Navy for the next decade.
The Pacific 24 Mk IV has been designed from the outset to be a military craft and it is now fully compliant to SOLAS regulations. The craft has undertaken all the SOLAS compliance testing including drops, slams and self-righting trials and has passed all of these stringent assessments, without any derogations being issued – rare for a military craft.
The craft is fitted with the electronically managed Yanmar 8LV370 engine supplied by Barrus, coupled through a ZF gearbox to a Hamilton HJ241 water jet with dry running bearings.
It has an overall length of 7.80m and has a displacement dry of 2042Kg with a full load displacement of 3500kg. These figures give a significant weight-saving over previous Pacific class boats and are believed by BAE Systems to be class leading. The product has been future-proofed introducing new technologies which will significantly increase the vessels’ payload capability allowing additional equipment to be added in support of operational requirements. It’s also equipped with two suspension seats (which are manufactured by James Fisher Defence) fitted as standard for the coxswain and navigator.
