New UK short sea service launch
Feederlink started a new service last month directly connecting the UK Port of Tyne to Southampton and increasing their service at the Port to four weekly sailings.
Feederlink, the Dutch based feeder specialists and subsidiary of Irish Continental Group, is expanding its existing range of services that interlink strategically important ‘out ports’ on the east coast of the United Kingdom and main line hub ports both on the continent and the UK. John Tye, Port of Tyne commercial director for logistics said, ‘This further enhances the scope of the Port’s supply chain, offering our customers greater flexibility by directly connecting the Tyne to Southampton, the second largest container port in the country.’
The newly added service, targeting deepsea import and export traffic, will significantly expand Feederlink’s existing route network, providing its clients with more than 26 calls each week at UK ports.
Harry Kleipas, Feederlink managing director added, ‘Feederlink will now be in a position to offer an unrivalled range of routes and services linking the Port of Tyne with hubs located at Rotterdam, Felixstowe and now Southampton.’
The Port of Tyne has been operating its own integrated logistics service, encompassing containers, warehousing and distribution, since 1999.
