Peterhead to profit from £50m dredging JV
A joint venture between Boskalis Westminster and McLaughlin and Harvey is currently working on the initial stages of Peterhead Port Authority’s £50m North Harbour development in Scotland, UK.
The UK dredging contractor and the Belfast based civil engineering firm will provide a new dedicated whitefish landing hub and extensive deepening of the North Harbour at the Scottish port. The works, due for completion in the spring of next year, will increase market capacity and double the water depth currently available in the extensive North Harbour.
In order to allow the inner harbour floors to be dredged from -3.2m to -6.5m chart datum, the existing quay walls are being strengthened using an innovative ‘RD Piling’ solution developed in Scandinavia. This system has been tailored to suit the specific requirements at Peterhead as a result of close collaboration between McLaughlin and Harvey and RPS Consulting Engineers, Peterhead Port’s design engineers.
Boskalis Westminster will undertake rock dredging and reclamation, using both the dredged rock and additional imported material. A large backhoe dredger from the Boskalis fleet will carry out the dredging.
