Ravestein digs deep with backhoe dredgers
Dutch shipyard and construction company Ravestein BV has been awarded the contract for the design and construction of a backhoe dredger type of type Ravestein 750 B for ETERMAR SA. The vessel will be delivered in July 2014.
ETERMAR SA was founded in 1968 and is currently one of Portugal’s most experienced companies working in the maritime and fluvial hydraulic works sector. The company has its headquarters in Setúbal, which house the head offices and the electromechanical, carpentry and metal workshops in addition to a shipyard in the Sado river estuary for naval maintenance, repairs and construction.
For Ravestein this will be the third order for a backhoe dredger in the short time since the new series of Ravestein backhoe dredgers was introduced. Previously one was deliveed to Deme/NDC while currently under contract is the second of type backhoe dredger for Belgian giant Jan de Nul. Delivery is due next January 2014. Both vessels are fitted with a Liebherr P995 excavator.
The new backhoe dredger measures 50m LOA with a beam of 15.5m and a draft of 4m. Its Liebherr P 9350 will be capable of dredging to depths of 22m.
The pontoon has three spud legs and one hydraulically operated spud carrier. The legs each can press 280 tonnes and have a holding force of 560 tonnes. The spuds measure 1.6m by 1.6m.
Ravestein will build the backhoe dredger completely at its yard in Deest. The excavator will be transported from Liebherr at Colmar in France to be installed at Deest.
