VIDEO: Dredging to keep Hamburg Port operational
The Port of Hamburg has released a video that shows the work it has to do to keep the port dredged enough to maintain operations.
The hopper dredger Kaishuu has been deployed to take 8,750 tonnes of silt each trip from the port to E3, an area in the North Sea, where the material will be dumped 25 metres below the water surface.
It has a carrying capacity of 16,500m3 and a suction capacity of four cubic metres per second using two loading devices.
On the way to the dump site the 36 crew also carry out maintenance works, and when they arrive it takes just two minutes to dump the silt and flush out the nozzles.
