10 tech firms selected for offshore wind support
A ninth national academy programme has been set up 10 UK companies to ‘take the offshore wind industry by storm’.
The acceleration programme, called ‘Launch Academy’, has kicked off its 9th such programme with participants across the country ‘to address some of the most significant challenges within offshore wind’.
The technologies incorporated include subsea noise mitigation, floating wind cable connection systems and health monitoring for turbine blades.
The programme is being run under ORE (Offshore Renewable Energy) Catapult, a UK government research and development initiative.
The companies involved in the Launch Academy include:
- · Anstee Indication Systems – Failure identification
- · Crondall Energy – Online mooring integrity management
- · Indeximate – Risk intelligence for subsea cables
- · Kavakan – Smart offshore wind turbine monitoring
- · Auxetec – Polymer materials for turbine blades
- · Perceptual Robotics – Turbine blade inspection technology
- · Pulcea – Subsea noise mitigation
- · Quoceant – Floating wind cable connection
- · RTDT – AI digital twins
- · Werover – AI health monitoring for turbine blades.
The nine-month programme will provide professional support to these companies, which have been selected for their innovative ideas in offshore wind.
Business development support, market analysis, education and legal advice are just some of the services that will be offered to them.
The UK is taking offshore wind extremely seriously and is the largest developer of the technology in the world after China.
A further auction will be held at a date this year, still to be finalised, for potential developers to submit bids for new wind farms.
