£2m boost for UK offshore wind manufacturing

The programme, open to applications until 20 September 2024, aims to unlock capital investment for building or expanding facilities essential to the offshore wind industry.

“The MFSP will provide targeted support to UK-based manufacturers, helping them develop new or expanded production capacity for offshore wind components,” said Iain Sinclair, executive director at Global Energy Group and non-executive director for OWGP.

“This initiative is crucial for accelerating offshore renewables growth and helping the UK meet its 60GW offshore wind target by 2030.”

Growth plans

The MFSP offers up to GB£500,000 in matched funding to companies, focusing on areas identified by the Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan.

This funding aims to increase the UK’s offshore wind manufacturing capabilities by supporting early-stage development, which is often the most challenging phase of capital investment.

The programme seeks to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of UK manufacturers within the offshore wind sector, contributing to the country’s broader offshore renewables goals.

Facilities aligned with key sector priorities, including equipment and systems required for offshore wind, will be eligible for the funding.

Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong business plan with clear growth prospects in revenue, employment and exports. This support is part of a broader mission to establish a globally competitive offshore wind supply chain in the UK.
