Cadeler in Danish wind farm deal

When finished, the HOFOR-owned wind farm will have a capacity of up to 300MW and produce enough energy to power 300,000 Danish households with renewable offshore electricity.

The wind farm will be in Øresund, about 10 kilometres off the south coast of Copenhagen, Denmark.

“It feels good to be back on home ground to install wind turbines in Øresund and be part of this well-planned project together with HOFOR and Siemens Gamesa,” said Mikkel Gleerup, chief executive at Cadeler.

“We have installed wind turbines of this size and capacity many times before, and we look forward to once again be using our skills, knowhow and assets to help power the grid with the urgent need for green electricity.”

Cadeler will use one of its O-class vessels, which will feature a new and larger main crane with a lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes at a radius of 40 metres. The main hook will be able to reach 160 metres above the main deck.

The Aflandshage is one of a number of planned offshore wind farms in Danish waters in the coming years.

Last year, the Danish parliament agreed to quadruple the production of solar and wind energy on land by 2030, as well as increase the capacity of offshore wind power fivefold.

The planning of the project has taken 11 years, and the location has been selected with consideration to the nearby Natura 2000 areas, coastline, shipping traffic and air traffic.

The gravity-based foundations will be placed on the seabed surrounded by large stones to create an artificial stone reef that can support local biodiversity and marine life.
