CorPower Ocean drives wave energy forward

The POWER-Farm EU Project, backed by a €19M Horizon Europe grant, aims to validate wave energy technology in UK waters and strengthen its role in future electrification strategies.

The project consortium will test survivability, reliability and performance at EMEC’s Scottish site, supporting marine construction activity and building a scalable supply chain across the UK and EU.

Wave energy potential

With the UK possessing 25GW of practical wave potential, the project is looking to reinforce the country’s status as a strategic market for wave energy.

Research from Supergen ORE Hub and the University of Edinburgh suggests that wave energy could add over GB£30bn in GVA to the UK economy under a high-ambition scenario, rising to more than GB£50bn when combined with tidal stream, supporting more than 80,000 jobs.

With more than 500GW of global wave potential, this project is looking to further position wave energy as a crucial component of future offshore renewables and long-term clean-power resilience.

The project consortium includes European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), The University of Edinburgh, Ocean Energy Europe, Renewable Risk Advisers and Kristinehamn Teknik & Service.

POWER-Farm builds on CorPower Ocean’s wave energy converter deployed off Portugal and focuses on scaling technology for commercial wave-farm deployment.

Earlier this year, the CorPower announced it had signed a berth agreement and would be returning to build a 5 MW wave energy project at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, Scotland.
