Fugro secures key offshore wind survey contract
Fugro has been awarded a major geotechnical survey contract for the Blue Mackerel offshore windfarm, a pioneering marine renewables project off Australia’s Gippsland coast.
The Blue Mackerel windfarm, being developed by Parkwind, part of JERA Nex, is set to become one of Australia’s flagship offshore wind initiatives. With a projected future capacity of 1 GW by 2032.
“We are confident that our advanced geotechnical expertise will deliver high-quality Geo-data essential for this landmark project,” said Shalu Shajahan, regional director, marine site characterisation Asia Pacific at Fugro.

Crucial role
The Blue Mackerel project aims to power over 500,000 Victorian homes and play a crucial role in Australia’s push toward net zero emissions by 2050.
This award follows Fugro’s successful completion of the geotechnical site investigation of the Star of the South offshore wind project.
Fugro’s advanced marine site characterisation capabilities will be integral to the project’s success.
Using the specialist geotechnical vessel Fugro Mariner, the company will conduct a comprehensive geotechnical and hydrographic survey, collecting seabed soil samples for analysis.
The results will help optimise the structural integrity of the wind farm and mitigate construction risks, ensuring compliance with the latest sustainability standards.
