Green light for Denmark’s largest wind farm

Expected to begin operating by 2027, Thor will produce 1.1 GW of renewable energy – enough to power one million households.

Thomas Michel, chief operations officer of RWE Offshore Wind, highlighted the ambitious scale and innovation behind the project, which includes sustainable technology such as recyclable rotor blades and turbine towers made from low-carbon steel.

Located 22 km off Jutland’s west coast, Thor will feature 72 wind turbines, half of which will have CO2 reduced steel towers, while 40 turbines will use recyclable blades.

The local ports of Esbjerg and Thorsminde will support construction and operations, with the latter generating around 50 to 60 new jobs.

RWE, a leader in offshore wind, already operates 19 offshore farms and is currently developing projects in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, aiming to triple its global offshore wind capacity to 10 GW by 2030.
