Mitsui acquires Scottish offshore renewables port
Mitsui & Co. Europe Ltd and MOL have completed a landmark port acquisition, taking ownership of Scotland’s Port of Nigg and two key energy services firms.
The deal sees Mitsui & Co. Europe Ltd and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. acquire 100% of three Global Energy Group (GEG) companies: The Port of Nigg, Global Energy (Fabrication) and Global Energy Services.
Mitsui will hold a 51% stake and MOL 49%, marking Mitsui’s first major investment in a Scottish energy port.

“Mitsui is the right custodian to lead the port’s next chapter- continuing to provide skilled jobs and driving Scotland’s energy transition.”
Strategic acquisition
The Port of Nigg, a strategic site for oil, gas and offshore renewables, will now undergo a new phase of development with fresh investment in quayside and manufacturing infrastructure.
The move will position the port to meet rising demand from both traditional energy and offshore wind sectors.
GEG will continue to operate from the site through its service companies, including Global Wind Projects and Global Port Services. The group retains its name and will maintain operations across Scotland, including at Nigg and Invergordon.
With this acquisition, Mitsui and MOL said they are strengthening their foothold in the UK’s evolving energy landscape, underlining their commitment to sustainable infrastructure and the growing offshore wind market.
It’s also a strategic investment which will enhance Nigg’s role in powering the UK’s low-carbon future.
