PortWind partnership boosts UK offshore wind expansion
Source Galileo has signed an MoU with Portland Port UK to advance offshore renewables, enhancing offshore wind development, infrastructure and local economic growth along the Dorset coast.
The MoU will see the port become a partner in the PortWind project, with its deep-water berths and strategic location serving as a hub for renewable energy projects, supporting construction, operations and supply chain growth.
“We look forward to working with Portland Port to develop solutions that will attract international investment, accelerate delivery of offshore wind projects and create jobs in Dorset and the wider South West,” said Garrett Morrison, chief development officer, Source Galileo.
Energy hub
Source Galileo, a major player in offshore wind, is developing the PortWind project, targeting 2 GW of installed capacity – enough to power over three million UK homes annually.
With a secured 2.5 GW grid connection at Chickerell substation, the project also includes a 350 MW battery storage system to enhance grid stability.
The project aligns with Dorset’s Clean Energy Super Cluster, promoting green jobs, training and energy security.
Portland Port, already experienced in offshore renewables, sees the collaboration as a step toward becoming a key renewable energy hub.

As the UK accelerates its offshore wind ambitions, the PortWind project is poised to drive sustainable energy growth, economic transformation, and long-term benefits for Dorset and beyond.
