Saipem signed up for two Italian floating wind projects

An agreement has been signed between Saipem and a group of companies with the name Divento, which comprises Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), GreenIT, Plenitude, CDP Equity, 7 Seas Wind Power and Nice Technology.

The floating wind project will be 35 kilometres off the coast of Sicily and generate up to 252MW of electricity in what Saipem is calling the first of its kind in Italy ‘to receive the environmental compatibility decree from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security’.

The Ichnusa Wind Power project will be 40km from southwest Sardinia and generate 504MW.

The Star 1 semi-submersible structures developed by Saipem are star shaped, with four columns and a passive ballast system. 

SOV and CTVs can access them easily, says Saipem, and they can be installed in shallow or deep waters.

“Both initiatives are in the development phase and awaiting the completion of the definition of the regulatory framework for the first auctions for Italian innovative renewables technologies, among which is floating offshore wind,” says Saipem.
