Turbines ordered for New York offshore wind farm

Vestas will supply, deliver and commission 54 of its V236 15MW turbines for the 810MW Empire Wind 1 New York project under a five-year deal.

The project is being run by energy giant Equinor and will use the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT), which is being transformed into an offshore wind hub and set to become one of the largest ports dedicated to offshore wind in the country.

The SBMT will provide the infrastructure to deploy the turbines, including the staging and pre-assembly activities such as load-in, load-out, and transport of components, tools and containers before progressing towards offshore wind turbine installation and commissioning.

Turbine delivery is expected to begin in 2026 with completion scheduled for 2027.
