UK SMEs join wind accelerator
Nine pioneering UK companies have secured places on a nine-month technology accelerator programme aimed at advancing innovation in the offshore wind industry.
Organised by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, the Launch Academy programme offers tailored support in areas including technology development, business strategy and professional services.
“We have been impressed by the wealth of creativity, ambition and expertise demonstrated by the companies selected for this fifth national Launch Academy programme,” said Dr Stephen Wyatt, director – Strategy and Emerging Technology at ORE Catapult.
“Further strengthening the UK’s offshore supply chain will be core to achieving a smooth transition towards our net zero targets and this presents an unrivalled opportunity for UK businesses with the appropriate skills and drive to succeed.”
The selected SMEs convened on 30 April in Blyth, Northumberland, meeting with Launch Academy’s support team and partners which include major industry players bp, EDF Renewables UK and Ireland and ScottishPower Renewables.
This year’s cohort is tackling critical challenges such as floating wind installation, wind farm life extension and decarbonising supply chains.
Launch Academy, which has supported 57 companies since 2020, has a track record of driving innovation – alumni have collectively raised £26.7 million in private investment, secured £8.4 million in grant funding and filed 150 patents.
Participants in the programme receive up to £60,000 in bespoke business support through modules covering legal advice, marketing, exporting, investor readiness, IP and more.
