DMT expands into China with new facility

The DMT Hinlee Marine Equipment site marks a major step forward in the company strengthening its position in the fast-growing Asian shipbuilding sector.

“The mix of Romanian engineering, Dutch knowledge and Chinese operational expertise has become one of our greatest strengths,” said CEO Piet ter Schure, CEO, DMT Marine Equipment.

“With the new facility and Brett Qian’s leadership, we finally have the infrastructure needed to fully develop the Chinese market.”

Ramped up production 

The new site now employs nearly 100 specialists focused on producing high-quality marine winches, lifting gear and associated deck machinery built to DMT’s long-established standards.

It manages the complete production cycle in-house, from steel cutting and metal construction to machining, painting, assembly and final testing.

A newly introduced test stand allows the company to certify every item of lifting gear and deck equipment before delivery, further boosting quality assurance.

Despite being recently established, the facility has already delivered strong results in 2025.

By the end of October, teams had completed 182 marine winches and produced an additional 131 equipment units, including capstans and chain stoppers.

With 71 dedicated production staff across machining, assembly, painting and testing, the plant significantly increases DMT’s manufacturing capacity during a period of rising regional demand.

DMT said that the expansion not only strengthens supply chain reliability in Asia but also supports its long-term global growth strategy, ensuring faster response times and greater value for shipbuilding customers worldwide.
