Intellian Technologies Inc has inaugurated its GMDSS Development Center in Busan, South Korea, which seeks to revolutionise marine safety solutions in the region.

The new centre will focus on developing advanced Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) technologies, including VHF and MF/HF radios and NAVTEX systems, with product launches anticipated in 2025.

“The development of GMDSS systems represents an exciting new chapter for Intellian,” said Eric Sung, CEO of Intellian Technologies Inc.

“By integrating GMDSS systems into our portfolio, we are equipping maritime customers with reliable communication solutions to meet all their needs, ensuring a new standard in marine safety.”

SOLAS compliance

The new product launches aim to bolster maritime safety and compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) convention, which mandates safety measures for seafaring vessels worldwide.

Strategically positioned in Busan, home to one of the world’s busiest ports, the GMDSS Development Center is ideally located within South Korea’s Southeastern Maritime Industrial Region.

This enables collaboration with a thriving maritime industry and access to seasoned marine electronics experts, supporting innovation in port operations and global shipping safety.

The introduction of these cutting-edge GMDSS solutions, including NAVTEX for distributing critical Maritime Safety Information (MSI), underscores Intellian’s commitment to empowering maritime communication and safety in the region.

The news comes off the back of an announcement last year that Intellian would be developing its GMDSS Safety Display Terminals alongside long term partners Inmarsat and Iridium.
